Many are manufactured by contracted suppliers who specialize in economy plastics and rubber materials that come at a lower cost to the OEMs, resulting in a lower price to consumer. The difference is in how these materials age, particularly in challenging weather and road conditions. Some will stain, chalk and retain road spray; others break under duress.
