Nissan Fairlady Z Z33 350Z / The Pinnacle of Pure Naturally Aspirated Driver’s Sports Cars
Introduced in 2002, the Fairlady Z (Z33 / 350Z) marked the fifth generation of Nissan’s legendary Z-car lineage and remained in production until 2008.

Power came from a naturally aspirated VQ35 series engine:

 ・ Early model: VQ35DE – 280 hp
 ・ Mid model: VQ35DE RevUp – 294 hp
 ・ Late model: VQ35HR – 313 hp

Each version delivered sharp throttle response and smooth, linear revving all the way to redline—hallmarks of a true NA performance engine. Available with a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission, the Z33 / 350Z avoided excessive electronic intervention. The direct connection between throttle input and engine response translated driver intent straight into motion. At a time when turbocharging and heavy electronic control were becoming the norm, the Z33 / 350Z stood apart—perfecting the concept of a pure naturally aspirated sports car.
It laid the foundation for future Z models and remains a symbol of the golden era of NA performance.

TOMEI USA x RSE– The Art of Single
In 2013, TOMEI USA introduced its first exhaust system for the Z33 / 350Z:
the TYPE-R Full Titanium Muffler.

The concept was clear: “The Art of Single.”
Not sound volume. Not visual impact.

With an 80.5mm straight-through main pipe and an optimized exhaust path, TYPE-R extracted every pulse and breath of the naturally aspirated VQ35. The results spoke for themselves.

The Challenge of Developing a Dual System
Following the success of TYPE-R, many Z33 / 350Z owners requested a dual exhaust—seeking a more aggressive rear view and a richer exhaust note. But RSE and TOMEI chose not to respond immediately.

The reason was simple:Lightweight is performance.
At the time, a dual layout inevitably meant compromises in weight and efficiency—compromises the engineering team refused to accept.
Years later, advances in titanium fabrication and layout optimization changed everything.
With new possibilities on the table, development resumed.
The goal was clear:
a dual exhaust system with refined aesthetics—without a single performance compromise.

After extensive prototyping and exhaustive testing, the TYPE-D Dual Exhaust System was completed.
