Nissan 350Z Nismo Gets the Tomei Treatment – Bungs In or Out?

An exhaust upgrade is about more than how it looks. For most owners, the sound is a big part of the decision—and hearing a system fitted to a car is far more useful than looking at product photos.

This Nissan 350Z Nismo came into Tarmac Sportz for a change from its standard setup. We fitted a Tomei Ti Titanium D exhaust and hi-flow cats, then recorded it with and without the exhaust bungs so you can hear both options.

Out With the Standard Exhaust

The job involved replacing the standard exhaust system with the Tomei titanium setup, alongside fitting hi-flow catalytic converters.

If you’re considering a similar upgrade, remember that the cats form part of the overall setup. A sound clip of an exhaust fitted with standard cats won’t necessarily represent how that same exhaust sounds with hi-flow cats.

For this car, the combination shown in our video is the Tomei exhaust paired with hi-flow cats—worth bearing in mind when comparing it with other 350Z exhaust videos.

Bungs In or Bungs Out?

The removable bungs give you a way to reduce the exhaust’s volume. But how much does the sound change, and which version would you prefer?

Headphones or a decent set of speakers will give you a better impression than a phone speaker, although a recording can only tell you so much about how an exhaust sounds in person.
