We recently welcomed this Toyota GR Yaris into the Tarmac Sportz workshop in Derby for two upgrades: an AIRTEC Motorsport intercooler and a Turbosmart blow-off valve.
The GR Yaris is an impressive little performance car straight from the factory, but there’s plenty of scope to develop it further. Cooling and managing pressurised air are two areas to consider when planning upgrades.
An intercooler cools the compressed air coming from the turbo before it enters the engine. As temperatures rise during repeated acceleration or extended driving, effective cooling helps maintain consistent performance.
The AIRTEC intercooler upgrade is designed to improve charge-air cooling over the standard unit, making it a useful addition for owners who want to get more from their GR Yaris on the road or track.
It’s also worth considering as part of a wider tuning plan, where keeping intake temperatures under control becomes increasingly important.
Alongside the intercooler, we fitted a Turbosmart blow-off valve.
A blow-off valve releases excess pressure in the intake system when the throttle closes, such as when lifting off the accelerator or changing gear. This helps manage the pressure created while the turbo is producing boost.
Turbosmart offers different valve configurations, so choosing the right version matters—particularly if you have a preference for a quieter setup or a more noticeable release sound.
Both upgrades were fitted here at Tarmac Sportz, adding to the growing list of GR Yaris jobs through our workshop.
Whether you’re starting with a standard car or planning the next stage of an existing build, we can help you choose parts to suit your setup and intended use.
We supply and fit performance upgrades for the Toyota GR Yaris, including cooling components, induction kits, exhausts, suspension and wheels.
